Starting this summer, all games featuring loot boxes will be rated a minimum of PEGI 16, a significant shift in how the gaming industry addresses the potential risks associated with in-game purchases. This change, announced by the European game ratings board, aims to protect younger audiences from the implications of paid random items that can lead to gambling-like behaviors. The new regulations will classify games with loot boxes as PEGI 16 by default, restricting their sale to anyone 15 or younger across Europe.
